The latest MSNBC segment featuring host Katie Phang and her guests delved into the bizarre statements made by Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) regarding his anticipated expulsion from Congress.
Santos, a federally-indicted lawmaker who has been accused of fabricating elements of his background and misusing campaign funds, portrayed himself as a victim in a lengthy interview with a conservative podcaster. He acknowledged an impending expulsion from Congress but spun it into a “badge of honor.”
“I was, as we joke around a lot in my circles, we’re like ‘oh my god, you were the ‘It girl.’ Everybody wanted you,” Santos said. “Until nobody wanted me.”
He also likened himself to “the Mary Magdalene of United States Congress,” which baffled the show’s participants.
During “The Katie Phang Show” Sunday, Phang presented Santos’ remarks to her guests, leading to an eruption of laughter before they shared their astonishment at Santos’ audacious statements.
One of Phang’s guests, Jennifer Rubin, a conservative columnist for the Washington Post, advised that the Republican Party is unlikely to spare Santos. She pointed out that while other controversial figures have been retained, there’s apparently no place for Santos in their ranks.
After a resolution for Santos’ expulsion was filed by Republican House ethics committee chairman Rep. Michael Guest (Miss.), following the release of a damning ethics committee report and a 23-count federal indictment, it appears only a matter of time before Santos’ predicted expulsion becomes a reality, as his fellow GOP members distance themselves from his scandalous conduct.
