Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s Remarkable Feat on Celebrity SAS Amidst Challenges Sets New Benchmark

The West Suffolk MP takes center stage in the highly anticipated upcoming season of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. This star-studded lineup features 16 famous faces, including Gareth Gates, Melinda Messenger, and James Argent, who will face the grueling challenge of the jungle phase of SAS selection in Thung Ui, North Vietnam.

Channel 4 is set to bring back this demanding show with seven 60-minute episodes starting on September 26. Viewers can expect to see chief instructor Mark “Billy” Billingham, along with directing staff Jason “Foxy” Fox, Rudy Reyes, and Chris Oliver, put these celebrities through their paces.

One notable recruit for this season is former health secretary Matt Hancock, who resigned in June 2021 due to controversy surrounding his breach of Covid-19 restrictions. He expressed, “Being on SAS was an unparalleled experience, testing me both physically and mentally. It forced me to confront my own limits.” Hancock, who faced criticism for his appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2022, views this show as an opportunity to push himself further after his challenging tenure as health secretary during the pandemic.

Joining Hancock is Gareth Gates, who rose to fame on Pop Idol. Gates describes Celebrity SAS as “an experience like no other,” highlighting the distinction between being fit for the gym and battle-fit. TV presenter Melinda Messenger, on the other hand, describes the show as the most physically challenging experience she has ever faced. James Argent from The Only Way Is Essex adds that it’s the kind of show that pushes you to your breaking point.

The star-studded lineup also includes singers Michelle Heaton and Siva Kaneswaran, TV personality Danielle Lloyd, former footballer Jermaine Pennant, and former rugby player Gareth Thomas. Reality stars Montana Brown, Teddy Soares, and Amber Turner will also take part, alongside comedian Zoe Lyons, actress Kirsty-Leigh Porter, British Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, and Paralympic gold medalist Jon-Allan Butterworth.

This fifth celebrity series is a spin-off of the original SAS: Who Dares Wins, which subjected civilians to military training exercises to test their physical and mental strength. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4 on September 26 at 9.30pm. Get ready for an action-packed and intense season you won’t want to miss.
