Hayao Miyazaki’s Upcoming Film ‘The Boy and the Heron’ Reveals New Stills by Studio Ghibli

Studio Ghibli, the beloved Japanese anime house, has delighted fans by releasing a collection of film stills from the highly anticipated movie, “The Boy and the Heron,” directed by Hayao Miyazaki. These captivating images were unveiled on the studio’s website, more than a month after the film’s successful premiere in Japan.

“The Boy and the Heron” is rumored to be Miyazaki’s final project with Studio Ghibli and draws inspiration from his favorite childhood book, Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 novel “How Do You Live?” Set in the aftermath of World War II, the film follows the journey of a grieving young boy named Mahito Maki, who relocates to the countryside with his father following the loss of his mother.

In this enchanting setting, Mahito stumbles upon an abandoned tower and discovers a magical world inhabited by a talking gray heron. “The Boy and the Heron” marks Miyazaki’s return to filmmaking after a decade since the release of his critically acclaimed biographical film, “The Wind Rises,” in 2013.

Studio Ghibli took a unique approach to promoting the movie, opting not to release an official trailer or other traditional promotional materials prior to its debut. Despite this unconventional strategy, “The Boy and the Heron” achieved the biggest opening in Studio Ghibli’s history, earning a staggering 1.83 billion yen ($13.2 million) during its opening weekend.

Currently, there is no official announcement regarding the film’s release date in the Philippines. Fans eagerly await the opportunity to experience Miyazaki’s final masterpiece on the big screen.
