Hawks Forward Jalen Johnson Out for 3-4 Weeks Due to Left Wrist Fracture: What It Means for the Team

Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson will be out of action for three to four weeks due to a left wrist injury, the team announced on Sunday.

Johnson sustained the injury during their 136-108 victory over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night when he landed awkwardly on his left wrist after a fast break. An MRI on Sunday revealed a left distal radius fracture, which will keep him out of action for the next few weeks, possibly extending until the end of the calendar year.

Despite finishing the game with eight points, one rebound, and one assist in just eight minutes, Johnson’s injury is a major blow for the Hawks. The 21-year-old has been enjoying a breakout season, averaging a career-high 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting just shy of 60% from the field. He has solidified his position as a strong candidate for the Most Improved Player award after averaging only 5.6 points per game last season.

Johnson’s absence will be keenly felt as the Hawks continue their current road trip with a game against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden, in the hopes that Johnson can return to the lineup for their matchup against the Chicago Bulls on Dec. 26.
