‘Hard Knocks’ Set to Feature Aaron Rodgers and the Jets

The New York Jets have been chosen by the NFL and NFL Films to be the featured team on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this summer. The announcement was made by ESPN. This will be the Jets’ second time appearing on the documentary series, with their first appearance being in 2010.

Although Coach Robert Saleh had expressed his reluctance to be featured on the show, the Jets were one of four teams that could be mandated to participate in the series according to league rules established in 2014. Teams can avoid being on “Hard Knocks” if they meet certain criteria such as having a first-year coach, making the playoffs in the previous two seasons, or appearing on the show within the last 10 seasons.

The Jets are an intriguing choice for the show, especially after the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP, from the Green Bay Packers in April. The team has several compelling storylines heading into training camp, including the development of quarterback Zach Wilson (the second pick in the 2021 draft), the contract status of defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, the reigning defensive rookie of the year Sauce Gardner, and the arrival of offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett (previously with a failed head coaching stint in Denver).

Last season, the Jets started strong, winning five out of their first seven games, but then experienced a late-season collapse, losing their final six games. Under Saleh’s leadership, the team finished with a 7-10 record, showing a three-win improvement from the previous year.

With the addition of Rodgers, the Jets are aiming for the same level of success they had during their previous appearance on “Hard Knocks” in 2010, when Rex Ryan was the head coach. After reaching the AFC championship game and falling short against the Indianapolis Colts, the Jets started the 2010 season with high expectations while also dealing with all-pro cornerback Darrelle Revis’s holdout. Despite the challenges, the Jets managed to finish the season with an 11-5 record and again reached the AFC championship game, this time losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Overall, the Jets’ selection for “Hard Knocks” promises an engaging and eventful season to capture on camera.
