Group Alleges Kellogg’s Products are ‘Sexualized’

America First Legal, a conservative legal group led by former Trump adviser Stephen Miller, has recently filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Target and Kellogg. They accuse the companies of violating federal law with their diversity programs and of “sexualizing” their products. Reuters reports that the group claims the policies promoting underrepresented minority groups to management positions are “illegal discrimination.” In a press release, America First Legal stated that the company’s directors were breaking the law and negatively impacting shareholders’ interests due to a “twisted woke ideology.”

In their press release, America First Legal specifically named Kellogg’s “Chef in Residence” program, which the company describes as a “paid postgraduate fellow program for Black chefs to work with our Research and Development (R&D) team to help them better understand food’s role in Black communities worldwide.” The legal group claims that the program unlawfully only allows Black or African American chefs. They also criticized Kellogg for abandoning their “family-friendly marketing approach” and politicizing and sexualizing their products. They referenced cereal boxes celebrating Pride month and Cheez-It boxes featuring drag queen RuPaul.

The complaint against Kellogg comes after America First Legal filed a lawsuit on behalf of an investor in Target. The lawsuit argues that Target’s sale of Pride month items, embracing the “radical transgender agenda,” led to a predictable drop in its share price. However, Nikki McCann Ramirez points out in Rolling Stone that the claim of the stock collapse being predictable may be an overestimation. Target has been producing a Pride collection for over a decade, and it was only when major conservative figures, including Stephen Miller himself, called for a boycott that the company’s financials were impacted.
