Grace Helbig reveals she has been diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer

Internet comedian and host of the podcast “This Might Get Weird,” Grace Helbig, announced in a YouTube video on Monday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I have been keeping a big secret, and I felt compelled to share that this whole experience has been overwhelming,” said Helbig, 37, in the video. “Throughout the day, I have been going through a rollercoaster of emotions, but I am incredibly grateful to have a wonderful husband, supportive family, and amazing friends who have already been so helpful.”

Helbig gained fame with her YouTube channel, which has over 2.6 million subscribers. She rose to prominence in the early 2010s with the web series DailyGrace, where she shared comedic videos on topics like dating advice and body image. After leaving the show in 2013, she focused on her own channel and projects, but eventually scaled back due to burnout.

Helbig discovered her triple positive breast cancer diagnosis about a month ago after mentioning a lump in her left breast to her gynecologist during her annual check-up. “I had to convince myself to bring it up because I thought I was just a naive girl who didn’t understand how her body worked,” Helbig shared. “Thankfully, I listened to that inner voice and brought it up, and my doctor agreed that it was abnormal.”

Following rapid mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy tests, Helbig received her diagnosis. Triple positive breast cancer means the tumor cells contain estrogen, progesterone, and high levels of HER2 receptors. Helbig will undergo six rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, and hormonal therapy. Medical professionals have assured her that the cancer is highly treatable and beatable.

Despite her serious situation, Helbig maintains her sense of humor. “Laughter and comedy help me navigate through difficult circumstances,” she added. “Not as a means of denying or deflecting the reality, but rather as a way to cope and find strength.”

Helbig has been in contact with her friend Hank Green, another popular YouTuber and bestselling author who himself was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in May. Hank’s brother, John Green, who is also a YouTuber and author, commented on Helbig’s video with a heartfelt and lighthearted message of support.

In conclusion, Helbig plans to continue working on her podcast “This Might Get Weird,” which she co-hosts with Mamrie Hart, but acknowledges that she may need to adjust her schedule. “One thing I’ve learned from this process is that
