The Birth of Google
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of Google, first met at Stanford University in 1995. Little did they know that their disagreement about nearly everything would lead to the creation of one of the most influential search engines in the world. In 1996, they developed a search engine called Backrub, which later became known as Google. With an initial investment of $100,000, they set up their first office in a garage in Menlo Park, California. Susan Wojcicki, who would later become the CEO of YouTube, was their 16th employee.
Growth and Expansion
Since its humble beginnings, Google has made significant strides in the tech industry. In 2004, the company went public and became a publicly traded company. Over the years, Google has launched game-changing products such as Gmail and the Android phone. It has also acquired YouTube, further solidifying its presence in the online video domain.
The Era of Google Doodles
One of the remarkable features of Google’s homepage is its ever-changing logo, known as Google Doodles. The tradition of Google Doodles began in 1998 when the company celebrated the Burning Man Festival in Nevada. Since then, Google has featured over 5,000 unique Doodles on its homepage. A team at Google curates the topics for the Doodles, usually highlighting anniversaries or significant events. These Doodles are created by a talented team of illustrators called Doodlers.
Celebrating 25 Years
To mark its 25th anniversary, Google has created a special Google Doodle that morphs through its past logos, culminating in a doodle that incorporates the number 25. Additionally, the Google search results page is adorned with confetti, adding to the celebration.
Interactive Doodles and Contests
Google Doodles have not only been visually appealing but also interactive. In 2017, a cricket game was featured as a doodle, allowing users to play the sport with cartoon crickets. Another notable example is the 2018 doodle that honored Maya Angelou’s 90th birthday, featuring a video with her inspirational quotes. Every year, Google also holds a doodle contest for school kids, with exciting prizes such as college scholarships and technology awards.
The Evolution of the Google Logo
Throughout its history, the Google logo has undergone several transformations. The original logo, created in 1998, was simple and minimalistic.
