June 16 (UPI) — The Songwriters Hall of Fame paid tribute to Gloria Estefan, Post Malone, and other exceptional songwriters at their annual induction and awards gala.
Gloria Estefan, Teddy Riley, Jeff Lynne, Glen Ballard, and Liz Rose received the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the 52nd ceremony held in New York. Additionally, Post Malone was awarded the Hal David Starlight Award for his remarkable contribution to the music industry.
Post Malone exuded joy as he graced the red carpet, dressed in a sleek black suit, white shirt, and a black baseball cap.
The Hal David Starlight Award recognizes talented young songwriters who have made a significant impact with their original compositions in the music industry.
Gloria Estefan, who became the first Latina songwriter to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame, attended the gala alongside her husband, Emilio Estefan, and other family members.
In her speech, Gloria Estefan expressed her deep love and appreciation for Emilio Estefan, her husband of 48 years.
“After 48 years together, I love you more deeply than when we began this crazy, exciting, surprising, and oftentimes terrifying epic life together,” said Estefan. She went on to credit Emilio for encouraging her musical journey, dating all the way back to when they were not even in a romantic relationship. “I remember you dropping me off one night after rehearsal — we weren’t even dating — and telling me that you wanted to record an original album for the band. And you were wondering if I wrote songs,” she added.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2023, including Snoop Dogg and Sade, was announced earlier this year. However, Snoop Dogg and Sade decided to defer their inductions and will be honored in the following year’s ceremony.
