Global Rallies: Uniting for Palestine and Israel Amid Escalating Conflict

Tens of Thousands Rally Worldwide in Support of Palestinians and Condemnation of Israel

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered across the Middle East and in parts of Asia, Europe, Canada, and the United States on Friday to show their support for Palestinians and condemn Israel’s intensified strikes on Gaza. Jewish communities in the U.S., France, and elsewhere also held rallies in solidarity with Israel after the deadly Hamas attack from Gaza, which was the deadliest in Israel’s history.

The Israeli response to the Hamas attacks has sparked anger in Arab and Muslim countries, while Western governments and many citizens have shown strong support and sympathy for Israel. In Turkey, crowds chanted against Israel and praised Hamas. Similar protests took place in other countries including Germany, France, and Canada.

The Canadian police have increased patrols in response to the Israel-Hamas conflict, but have not identified any specific local threats. They have emphasized that while peaceful protests are allowed, hateful rhetoric and violence will not be tolerated.

Activists in Montreal organizing a pro-Palestinian rally expressed their frustration with how support for Palestinians is being silenced and associated with hatred. They argued that innocent civilians in Gaza are being killed by Israeli bombs, which are funded by Western countries.

Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, has called on Palestinians to rise up against Israel’s bombardment of the blockaded enclave. The conflict has caused the deaths of thousands of Palestinians and Israelis.

Rallies in support of both sides of the conflict took place in major cities across the United States. In Washington, a rally supporting Israel and the American Jewish community drew about 200 people. In New York, protesters demanded Palestinian independence and criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Iraqis also held a large rally in Baghdad, burning the Israeli flag and chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israeli slogans. Similar protests occurred in countries such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Egypt.

Jewish communities also planned vigils and rallies in support of Israel. In France, the government banned pro-Palestinian protests due to the likelihood of public disorder. The Dutch and British police increased patrols and closed Jewish schools for safety reasons.

The Last Generation, a radical youth environmentalist group in Germany, cancelled their planned protests to avoid distracting police from protecting Jews and Jewish institutions.
