Glastonbury festival attendees consume data equivalent to 400 HD film downloads per hour

Vodafone has revealed that Glastonbury festival-goers used an astonishing amount of data during the five-day event. The festival’s official connectivity partner reported that a total of 169 terabytes of data were consumed, which is equivalent to downloading the film “Rocket Man” in HD 400 times every hour. To handle the demand, Vodafone placed nine masts around the Worthy Farm site. During Sir Elton John’s headline performance on the main Pyramid Stage, 450 gigabytes of data were uploaded. In total, 20 terabytes of data were consumed at the biggest stage, as attendees shared videos and pictures on social media. The Glastonbury app was also popular, with 208,000 downloads and over 130,000 people using the “My Line-Up” feature. Additionally, 10,500 charging packs were sold through the event’s battery exchange scheme. Vodafone’s UK chief commercial officer expressed pride in the network team’s efforts to boost capacity and promised to bring even better connectivity to Glastonbury next year.
