Enterprise Ireland is dedicated to supporting Irish companies in achieving greater scale and expanding their global presence. This commitment extends to partnering with them to address any complex challenges they may encounter along their journey.
Aside from providing financing, there are other issues that can arise for these companies, including the cost of funding, lack of planning, conflicts among shareholders, and founder fatigue.
To assist the companies Enterprise Ireland works with in their scaling efforts, a five-part webinar series called ‘Building Blocks for Scale’ has been developed. This series covers five crucial topics for entrepreneurs and CEOs who are eager to focus on scaling their businesses.
The intention behind this series is to inspire business founders about the key areas required for successful scaling and encourage them to take a balanced view of their business as a whole, rather than solely focusing on one aspect. Often, founders can spend a significant amount of time on an area where they possess personal expertise. For example, technical founders may become overly fixated on their product and its features.
The series brings attention to important considerations for founders during the scaling process and provides them with the opportunity to listen and learn from those who have already achieved substantial growth in their own businesses.
The first session of the series focuses on growth pathways, such as organic growth and acquisitions. The second session emphasizes the importance of planning to achieve scale. The third session discusses people, culture, and the significance of assembling the right team and foundation. The final two sessions cover corporate governance and securing funding.
Each webinar, accessible on GlobalAmbition.ie, features a presentation by a subject matter expert, such as Professor Jonathan Levie of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Growth and Scaling at NUIG, or Karen Hernández, leader of Enterprise Ireland’s People and Management team.
Additionally, each session includes a conversation with the founder of a company supported by Enterprise Ireland who shares insights on the topic and how they achieved rapid growth in their scaling journey.
Featured founders include Eoin Leonard, CEO and founder of Catalyst; Nick Keegan, CEO of fintech business Mail Metrics; Mark Barrett, co-founder and CEO of pharma company APC; Patrick Byrnes, CEO of Croom Medical; and Conor McCarthy, CEO and co-founder of Flipdish.
All the founders who contributed to this series stressed the importance of taking a proactive strategic approach, developing and implementing a sound plan, and effectively communicating that plan. They also highlighted the value of Enterprise Ireland’s Leadership 4 Growth program in their scaling efforts.
