Former producer Alexander McCaskill, who worked on Tucker Carlson’s show at Fox News, has left the conservative network following the airing of a caption referring to President Joe Biden as a “wannabe dictator.” McCaskill’s departure was confirmed by both Carlson and The Daily Beast, who first reported the story.
According to Carlson, the producer responsible for the on-screen banner was scolded and resigned within 24 hours. Despite being considered one of the most capable individuals at Fox News, McCaskill was asked to leave immediately instead of serving the customary two-week notice.
The controversial caption, displayed during “Fox News Tonight,” featured side-by-side images of Biden and former President Donald Trump with the words, “Wannabe Dictator Speaks at the White House After Having His Political Rival Arrested.”
Fox News later stated that the graphic was promptly removed and addressed. However, the caption drew criticism from individuals such as White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and The Washington Post.
In response, Carlson defended the graphic and the departed employee, questioning why the Democrats were angry about a potentially false banner. He argued that lies no longer seem to provoke outrage and questioned whether Fox News would apologize if a cable news producer had called Biden a genius or accused him of being secretly Sudanese.
It’s worth noting that Carlson himself has been engaged in a legal dispute with Fox News since his firing in April. Recently, the network sent a “cease and desist” letter to Carlson alleging a breach of his contract on Twitter.
At the time of writing, Fox News had not provided a comment on McCaskill’s departure, in response to HuffPost’s request. McCaskill is facing allegations of harassment in a lawsuit filed by former Fox News producer Abby Grossberg.
