Four individuals, including two 18-year-old men and two underage boys, were apprehended by the police on Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old homeless man in Long Beach.
Special Investigations Division detectives took custody of the two teenage Long Beach residents in the vicinity of the 800 block of Maine Avenue. The two minors have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, as confirmed by the Long Beach Police Department.
Due to their ages, the identities of the 16- and 17-year-olds have not been disclosed.
Furthermore, detectives also apprehended Jesus Hernandez-Perez, an 18-year-old resident of Long Beach, near the 400 block of West Ninth Street on Friday. He has been charged with murder and is currently being held on $2 million bail.
The US Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force and the Lakewood Police Department collaborated with Long Beach detectives to coordinate the arrest of Dangelo Antolin Rodrigues, an 18-year-old resident of Lakewood, Washington. He was taken into custody on Friday at the 4800 block of 123rd Street in Lakewood, Washington.
Police confirm that Rodrigues will be extradited from Lakewood to Long Beach, with his bail set at $3 million.
The incident occurred on July 11, when officers were summoned to the 900 block of Maine Avenue around 11 p.m. in response to gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground near Loma Vista Drive and Corvo Court. Medical personnel rushed the injured man to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Canaan Oryema Okatch by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a group of males approached Okatch and physically assaulted him. One of the suspects subsequently fired multiple gunshots at him, leading to his demise.
