Washington — Abby Grossberg, a former Fox News producer, has reached a settlement in her lawsuits against the network and Tucker Carlson, resulting in a $12 million payment from Fox News, according to her attorney. Gerry Filippatos, Grossberg’s lawyer, stated that the settlement resolves the claims filed against Fox News, its parent company, Carlson, and the network’s attorneys. A court filing from a federal district court in New York revealed that Grossberg voluntarily dismissed the case in Delaware but intends to refile it in New York.
Fox News spokesperson stated, “We are pleased that we have been able to resolve this matter without further litigation.”
In one of the lawsuits, Grossberg claimed that Fox’s attorneys coerced and impermissibly coached her during her deposition in Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit against Fox. She also alleged experiencing a hostile and sexist work environment while working for Maria Bartiromo and later as head of booking for Tucker Carlson’s primetime show. Grossberg was terminated from the network shortly after filing her lawsuits, which her attorneys considered retaliatory.
These lawsuits added to the legal troubles faced by Fox News this year, particularly Dominion’s claims that the network knowingly aired false claims about the company to boost ratings following the 2020 presidential election. Prior to the trial, Fox and Dominion reached a settlement, with Fox agreeing to pay $787.5 million to the electronic voting company. Shortly after the settlement, Carlson and Fox News parted ways.
Grossberg, who joined Fox in 2019, provided a deposition in Dominion’s legal battle against the network. Months later, she filed her lawsuit, alleging that Fox’s lawyers coerced, intimidated, and misinformed her during the preparation for her deposition testimony. Grossberg also possessed recorded conversations between Bartiromo and lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, who made false allegations about Dominion on her show. Portions of these recordings were played in a state court proceeding in Dominion’s lawsuit.
Grossberg’s second lawsuit focused on her experience working on Tucker Carlson’s show, accusing the work environment of subjugating women, perpetuating sexist stereotypes, demeaning religious minorities, and showing little regard for individuals with mental illness. However, she withdrew the lawsuits following the $12 million settlement, stating that she stands by her allegations but appreciates Fox News taking her claims seriously. Grossberg expressed hope that this resolution signifies positive progress in how the network treats women and minorities in the workplace.
Meanwhile, Fox News is still facing a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit from Smartmatic, another voting company, filed in New York state court.
