Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch is set to stand trial in November on misdemeanor charges following his arrest last year for suspicion of drunken driving. Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge Cedric Kerns has scheduled a two-day trial beginning on November 8th to address these charges, which include failure to drive in a travel lane and driving an unregistered vehicle. According to police reports, Lynch, who is now 37 years old, was found asleep behind the wheel of a severely damaged and “undriveable” 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 on August 9th, 2022. The vehicle had one front wheel missing and a damaged rear wheel that was on the verge of falling off.
Schonfeld and Chesnoff have argued that Lynch cannot be charged with DUI as he was not stopped by police while driving. They contend that the vehicle was parked at the time of his arrest. In Nevada, however, a person in the driver’s seat of a vehicle can be considered to be in physical control of the vehicle, which may have implications for Lynch’s case.
Marshawn Lynch enjoyed a successful career in the NFL, primarily with the Seattle Seahawks, before retiring in 2019. Over his 12 seasons in the league, he was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and amassed an impressive 10,413 rushing yards and 85 rushing touchdowns with the Seahawks, the Buffalo Bills, and the Oakland Raiders.
