Former First Minister Asserts Innocence, Claims No Wrongdoing

This is not a eulogy. Allow me to express admiration for Boris Johnson, rather than mourn his departure, writes David Frost.

Undoubtedly, he is leaving Parliament, but he insists it is only temporary. Despite already achieving great success as the editor of the Spectator, mayor of London, foreign secretary, and prime minister, it is hard to believe that his story has come to an end.

While many assume that Boris and I have a long history, the truth is that we were at Oxford University at the same time but moved in different circles. However, we did cross paths in Brussels in the early 1990s when I was at the UK Mission and he was working as The Telegraph correspondent. During that time, he consistently criticized the excessive regulations imposed by the Commission, using his colorful reporting about bent bananas to highlight the truth about the European Union. We both realized that if these tendencies were not mitigated or stopped, it would eventually become untenable for Britain. 25 years later, we united to successfully lead the country out of the EU.

Over the years, Boris developed the charisma and public image that propelled him to the top. His ability to handle criticism and connect with the audience on the show Have I Got News for You? was an early indication of his talent as a politician and talented writer. This talent guided him through the challenges of being an MP for Henley and eventually led to his role as mayor of London.

David Frost: Boris’s story is far from over
