  • According to reports, two holidaymakers who encountered a flight delay are now engaged to be married.
  • Lisa Skellon and Jamie Hobbs met at Bournemouth Airport in the UK while waiting for separate flights to Tenerife.
  • They connected in the departure lounge, engaging in flirtatious conversation over drinks as they waited for their delayed flight.

According to a report from the BBC News, two holidaymakers found love when their flight was delayed. A serendipitous encounter at Bournemouth Airport has led to an engagement and plans for marriage.

Lisa Skellon and Jamie Hobbs were originally booked on different flights from Bournemouth Airport to Tenerife, Spain in November 2019. However, due to a problem, they both had to disembark the plane and wait at the terminal. This unexpected turn of events led to their paths crossing.

While flight delays are usually frustrating, in this case, it became the catalyst for a lifetime commitment. Ms. Skellon expressed her gratitude for the delay, acknowledging that they probably would not have met otherwise.

Hobbs and Skellon, both 56 years old, struck up a lively conversation over drinks in the departure lounge, where both groups of friends happened to be waiting for the delayed take-off. Skellon remarked, “We sat and had our drinks, and we didn’t stop looking at each other.”

Although Hobbs offered his business card, Skellon had already written down her phone number on an airplane sick bag. Their connection continued even after they boarded the plane, as they discreetly stole glances at each other from their separate seats just two rows apart.

Skellon admitted, “I repeatedly made excuses to pretend to get things out of my overhead luggage in order to keep looking back at Jamie.” Hobbs added, “I waited for the queue to the toilet to be in line with their seats so I could speak to Lisa.”

Their love story quickly gained international attention as they met every night in Tenerife. Upon their return to England, they maintained their relationship, which blossomed over time.

The couple successfully navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 lockdowns, spending the time together in Dorset.

Hobbs and Skellon are now preparing to tie the knot in Cyprus next month, as reported by BBC News.
