Fewer HMRC Staff Work in Office than During Lockdown as 95% Opt for Remote Work

  • Figures Show a Decline in HMRC Staff in the Office and Highlight Poor Service Concerns

New figures reveal that the majority of tax office employees now work remotely for part of the week, with fewer individuals in the office than during lockdown.

Approximately 95% of HM Revenue and Customs staff work away from the office at least once a week, equivalent to 19 out of every 20 employees.

This percentage is higher than during the initial Covid-19 lockdown, when the figure was around 92%, following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s advice to stay at home and prevent the spread of the infection.

Both numbers represent a significant increase from the 35% of staff who worked remotely at least one day a week in 2019.

These statistics come as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request obtained by the Mail.
