Felicity Huffman opens up about her involvement in the college admissions scandal after serving a brief prison sentence. In an interview with ABC-7 Eyewitness News, Huffman revealed her experience in the criminal conspiracy known as “Varsity Blues.”
The scandal involved wealthy parents, including celebrities like Huffman and Lori Loughlin, who were accused of using bribery, cheating, and fraud to secure their children’s admission to top colleges.
Addressing her association with Rick Singer, the mastermind behind the scheme, Huffman defended her actions by stating that she placed trust in Singer’s guidance. However, she confessed to paying $15,000 to have her daughter’s SAT answers falsified and served an 11-day jail term in October 2019.
Attributing her actions to the pressure of securing her daughter’s future, Huffman emphasized that she felt it was her only option at the time and believed she had no choice but to break the law to ensure a brighter future for her child.
Despite her involvement in the scandal, Huffman’s daughter, Sophia, was later admitted to Carnegie Mellon University after retaking the SAT. Meanwhile, Huffman’s younger daughter, Georgia, went on to attend Vassar.
Reflecting on her regrets, Huffman lamented not turning back from the decision to cheat on her daughter’s behalf. She expressed deep remorse for her actions, admitting to feelings of shame for not making a different choice.
