Father’s Day Commemorated with Car Events and Remembrance Service in Los Angeles County

Celebrate Father’s Day in style with car-related events taking place in Beverly Hills and El Segundo. Before the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Francisco Giants, players and their fathers and children will participate in the ceremonial first pitch.

The 28th Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance is a must-see event, showcasing over 100 vehicles including supercars, race cars, and classic cars. This event, located on Rodeo Drive between Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Don’t miss the West Coast debuts of Aston Martin’s DB 12 sports car and DBX70 SUV, which will be featured among nine luxury vehicles organized by O’Gara Coach Beverly Hills.

This incredible event is completely free to attend, and there will be parking available at nearby garages.

If you’re looking for a unique experience, head to the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo. From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., they will be offering chauffeured rides in classic cars. Tickets are $15 for adults aged 18 to 61, $10 for adults aged 62 and older, and $5 for children aged 11 to 17. Children must be at least 55 inches tall to ride. Plus, the ticket price includes beer tasting for adults 21 and over.

Join the Father’s Day Remembrance Service at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary at 10 a.m. Rabbi Cantor Marcelo Gindlin of the Malibu Jewish Center will lead the service, which will be streamed at hillsidememorial.org/fathers-day.

After the service, attendees can share their stories and memories in a session led by psychotherapist Maggi Scharf.

In support of the fight against prostate cancer, Major League Baseball will dedicate Father’s Day to this cause. Throughout all Sunday’s games, including the Dodgers-Giants game at Dodger Stadium, on-field personnel will wear specially designed blue-themed caps and blue ribbon decals.

Optional for every player, a matching pair of blue socks will further raise awareness for prostate cancer. In addition, the blue ribbon will appear on the bases at each stadium and the official dugout lineup cards. MLB will generously donate 100% of its royalties from on-field Father’s Day socks and caps to MLB Charities, which will then contribute those funds to the Prostate Cancer Foundation to support their mission in tackling prostate cancer.

Furthermore, Sunday’s games will mark the culmination of the Home Run Challenge, where each home run hit since May 20 has contributed to the fight against prostate cancer. Fans’ pledges tied to the number of home runs hit during this period have raised money for the cause.

In his Father’s Day proclamation, President Joe Biden emphasized the important role fathers play in raising the next generation and instilling values. He praised responsible fatherhood and its positive influence in shaping the character and confidence of children, providing them with valuable tools for navigating life.

The history of Father’s Day dates back to Sonora Smart Dodd’s desire to honor her father, William Jackson Smart, a single parent who raised six children in Spokane, Washington. Initially proposed for June 5, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane on the third Sunday in June in 1910.

President Calvin Coolidge recommended in 1924 that Father’s Day become a national holiday. This recommendation was followed by President Lyndon Johnson proclaiming Father’s Day as a holiday to be celebrated on the third Sunday in June in 1966. Finally, President Richard Nixon signed a bill into law in 1972 to officially establish Father’s Day as a national holiday.
