A tragic incident occurred on Sunday when a 20-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a collision with a pickup truck in Sage.
The Riverside County Fire Department received a report of the crash at 9:50 a.m. near the intersection of Red Mountain and Sage roads. The details from the California Highway Patrol revealed that the motorcyclist, who was riding a 2016 BMW S1100 motorcycle, was traveling northbound on Sage Road just north of Red Mountain Road at a high speed of 90 to 100 mph. Simultaneously, the 49-year-old driver of a 2011 Nissan Frontier was heading southbound on Sage at approximately 45 to 50 mph.
Tragedy struck as the motorcyclist approached a curve in the road. However, due to excessive speed, he was unable to navigate the curve safely. As a result, he lost control of his motorcycle, leading both him and the bike to slide across the painted solid double yellow lines that separate the northbound and southbound lanes.
The motorcyclist collided with the right front of the Nissan, sustaining severe injuries. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, fortunately, escaped unharmed but stayed at the scene to cooperate with the CHP investigators.
This incident serves as a solemn reminder for all drivers to be cautious and mindful of their speed while on the road. Speeding continues to be the leading cause of traffic collisions, and preventing such tragedies requires responsible driving from everyone.
