Fatal Long Beach Shooting Results in Arrest of Two Men

Police have arrested two individuals from Los Angeles in relation to a fatal shooting in Long Beach. The incident resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man named Kelvin Montoya. According to authorities, Robert Mallard, 23, and John Nelson II, 19, were apprehended at a nearby hospital after fleeing the scene.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that Mallard and Nelson were involved in the shooting. They promptly notified special investigation detectives and found a discarded firearm in the vicinity. The evidence obtained by homicide detectives later confirmed that Mallard and Nelson were the main suspects in the incident, which was reported at 7:21 p.m. on Sunday.

Law enforcement believes that Montoya, Mallard, and Nelson were acquainted with each other. They met at a location to purchase marijuana and subsequently ended up in a vehicle together. However, an altercation broke out among the three individuals while in the vehicle, which ultimately led to the shooting and stabbing near 29th Street and Chestnut Avenue. Montoya tragically lost his life during the incident.

Both Mallard and Nelson sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. Detectives suspect that the motive behind the incident may be robbery, although further investigation is needed. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges this week.
