A tragic accident occurred in Cathedral City resulting in the loss of a young motorcyclist’s life. The victim has been identified as Zachariah Acosta from Cathedral City, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
The incident took place at the intersection of Date Palm Drive and 35th Avenue. Cathedral City Police Department received a report of a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle at 9:13 p.m. on Sunday.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high speed in the northbound direction on Date Palm Drive when a vehicle from Royal Palms Country Club made a turn onto the same road, resulting in the collision.
Upon arrival, officers found the motorcyclist in an unresponsive state with severe injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department made every effort to save his life, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The coroner’s officials pronounced him dead at 9:27 p.m.
Cathedral City police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, who was the sole occupant, did not sustain any injuries and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
As a result of the investigation, Date Palm Drive was temporarily closed between 35th Avenue and Victoria Drive. The road has now been reopened.
