Fatal Boat Fire Claims Lives of Man and Woman in Their 60s at Alamitos Bay in Long Beach

Tragedy struck at Alamitos Bay in Long Beach as a 35-foot pleasure boat suddenly caught fire at a fuel dock. Unfortunately, two women lost their lives in the incident, while two men and a woman were rushed to the hospital with burn injuries.

The distress call came in at 5:17 p.m., alerting local firefighters to the blaze at Marina Drive. The fire, which emitted smoke that permeated the east side of Long Beach, caused quite a spectacle, with residents reporting an explosion-like sound.

Thanks to the prompt response of Long Beach firefighters and assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority, the blaze was eventually extinguished. Fortunately, no firefighters were harmed during the operation.

To prevent any further environmental damage, the wreckage of the boat was towed to a dedicated isolation dock, considering the potential of fuel leakage.

The investigation into this tragic incident will focus on determining whether the fire was ignited during the refueling process or immediately after. It serves as a reminder of the inherent danger involved in fueling boats, as proper ventilation is crucial to prevent such accidents.
