Alef Aeronautics, a California-based company, is now accepting preorders for its flying electric car, which has received a Special Airworthiness Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This certification allows the company to conduct road and air tests of the vehicle. The fully-electric car, which also has a hydrogen option for a higher price, is a low-speed vehicle that can travel up to 200 miles on roads and fit into a regular garage. However, it can also take off vertically and fly up to 110 miles. According to Alef’s website, the car, known as the “Model A,” can navigate obstacles and provide a sensory experience with its unique cabin design. Alef emphasizes that the car can avoid traffic and travel in any direction, offering a panoramic view for a safe and enjoyable flight. The vehicle, which seats up to two people, is expected to cost around $300,000, and customers can now place preorders. The FAA has granted a Special Airworthiness Certification for the Armada Model Zero aircraft, allowing it to be used for exhibition, research, and development purposes. Alef initially unveiled its flying car last October and has already received a significant number of preorders. The FAA is currently working on policies related to the takeoff and landing of electric vehicles. Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny expressed excitement about the FAA certification, stating that it brings them closer to providing an eco-friendly and faster commuting option that can save individuals and companies hours each week. The company was inspired to create a flying car in 2015 after a discussion about the possibility of flying cars in a science fiction lecture.
