Former President Donald Trump Allegedly Discussed Sensitive Information about US Nuclear Submarines at Mar-a-Lago Resort
In a report by ABC on Thursday, it was alleged that former President Donald Trump discussed potentially sensitive information regarding US nuclear submarines with a member of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, after his presidency.
The member in question is said to be Anthony Pratt, an Australian billionaire, who allegedly shared the information with “more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and a handful of journalists” during a meeting in April 2021.
According to sources cited by ABC, a former employee of Mar-a-Lago expressed concern over the former president revealing such information to a non-US citizen. The employee claimed to have heard Pratt discussing potentially sensitive details shortly after his meeting with Trump.
While these allegations were not included in special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of Trump for mishandling classified documents, they were still reported and investigated by Smith’s team, ABC reported.
A spokesperson for Trump dismissed ABC’s report, stating that the claims lacked essential context and relevant information.
“Rather than perpetrating baseless witch-hunts, the Department of Justice should focus on investigating the criminal leaking of information. President Trump has always insisted on truth and transparency and has acted in accordance with the law,” the spokesperson said.
CNN has reached out to Pratt and the special counsel’s office for comment.
According to sources, Pratt allegedly told investigators that Trump discussed the idea of Australia purchasing submarines from the US. The former president reportedly went on to provide details about the number of nuclear warheads carried by US submarines and their ability to approach Russian submarines undetected. However, Pratt claimed that he was not shown any government documents during the meeting.
CNN previously obtained audio from a meeting that took place in July 2021 at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. In the audio, exclusively reported by CNN, Trump acknowledged holding classified Pentagon documents related to a potential attack on Iran. This audio served as critical evidence in the special counsel’s indictment.
Trump currently faces 40 counts in the classified documents case, including willful retention of national defense information and conspiracy to obstruct justice. It is one of the four cases in which he has been indicted.
As Trump seeks to return to the White House and remains the GOP front-runner, he recently requested a delay in the trial until after the 2024 elections. A similar request had previously been denied.
