“Quarterback” aims to fill the gap between these moments, taking viewers to birthday parties, prenatal tests, and the car rides home after close playoff losses.
Showrunner Joe Zucco explains, “No other position in professional sports impacts a game like the quarterback does. We have three quarterbacks at different stages in their careers, and we get to see them in every game of the season. We also witness how they handle loss and then go home to be fathers. It provides a comprehensive look into what it means to be the face of a franchise.”
Over the course of eight episodes, “Quarterback” follows superstar Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Pro Bowl pick Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and former Atlanta Falcons signal-caller Marcus Mariota through the 2022 season.
In Episode 3, titled “King of Pain,” viewers witness Cousins showcasing his bruises in a cold tub, followed by a 40-minute exploration of the physicality of the position and the recovery process for quarterbacks and their loved ones.
The next episode, “Mind Games,” delves into the intellectual aspects of being a quarterback. It opens with each player reciting complex play-calls and showcases their mental strategies and preparation.
