Experience a new era of electric vehicles as Ford Motor Co. unveils the all-electric 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally – a groundbreaking vehicle designed specifically for off-highway road rally enthusiasts.
In a recent online press introduction, Ford unveiled the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally, the first electric vehicle (EV) equipped with features aimed at the road rally performance niche. This highly anticipated release challenges the dominance of the internal-combustion powered Subaru WRX.
Michael Sego, group marketing manager of Mustang Mach-E, stated, “We definitely see departure from the pavement, and an entry onto the dirt road, as one of those areas where the EV will be expanding in the near term.”
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally is expected to hit the market in early 2024, likely as a 2024 model.
In separate discussions with investors, Wall Street analysts, and the press, Ford President and CEO Jim Farley emphasized the need for EVs to differentiate themselves beyond the battery-powered powertrain. According to Farley, now that all vehicles come in electric versions, they must compete based on their individual merits.
As an example, he highlighted the versatility of Ford’s battery-driven full-size pickup, the Ford F-150 Lightning, which can be used to power tools or serve as a backup power source for a home during outages.
One standout feature of the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally for road rally enthusiasts is its impressive torque, generated by electric motors, surpassing that of comparable internal-combustion engines. Torque is the key to launching a vehicle from a standing start.
In addition, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally offers higher ground clearance, underbody protection against debris, and a striking oversized rear spoiler.
According to Sego, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally is expected to have a range of approximately 250 miles on a single charge. This exceeds the typical daily distance driven by most individuals, with the median daily distance falling around 30 miles and the median individual trip spanning just five miles.
Donna Dickson, chief engineer of Mustang Mach-E, shared that the powertrain in the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally is a two-motor setup closely based on the powertrain found in the Mustang Mach-E GT.
Official specifications have yet to be announced, but Dickson revealed that Ford is aiming for torque levels of at least 650 ft.-lbs. and 480 horsepower.
Production volume is expected to be limited, and distribution will likely be concentrated in markets where road rallying is popular, particularly in Snowbelt regions.
Sego added, “We will prioritize production for areas with the highest customer demand.”
