Fresh details have surfaced regarding the forthcoming Call Of Duty installment. Although many are still engrossed in the game Modern Warfare III, reports from Windows Central suggest that the next game by Activision will be a new Black Ops title, set in the early-1990s Gulf War and developed by Treyarch.
As per Windows Central’s report, the upcoming Call of Duty, anticipated for 2024, will see the return of the Black Ops subtitle. Set during the early ‘90s Gulf War, this installment is a step forward from the last Black Ops game, 2020’s Cold War, and portrays the conflict between Iraq and a U.S.-led coalition of countries.
The next Black Ops will narrate a ‘nuanced narrative’ of the war
Windows Central highlights that the forthcoming Call of Duty, tentatively dubbed “Black Ops 6″ and codenamed internally as “Cerberus,” will introduce old-school military weapons and equipment reminiscent of earlier Black Ops games, foregoing the futuristic guns featured in recent Call of Duty titles. Moreover, it aims to deliver a “nuanced narrative of the Gulf War,” focusing on the different factions involved in the conflict.
Insider Gaming reported that the new game, speculated to be named Black Ops: Gulf War, is expected to include maps from previous Black Ops games. Leaks also hint at a potential round-based Zombies mode. Additionally, Windows Central suggests that a “large pre-order early access bonus” could be in the works. Release is tentatively scheduled for late fall/early winter in 2024.
Notwithstanding, this information remains unverified by Activision or Treyarch. Nevertheless, it’s apparent that the next Call of Duty game is on track for a 2024 launch.
Kotaku has reached out to Activision for a statement.
In the wake of Modern Warfare III, Activision is faced with some challenges – the campaign is poorly received, and multiplayer is rife with issues. Given that the developers rushed Modern Warfare III to release, the forthcoming release should hopefully evade similar issues.
