Experience Elevated All-Season Performance with the New Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS Tires

When it comes to your vehicle, the most critical component that significantly affects acceleration, braking, handling, ride, and fuel economy are the tires. That’s why it’s essential to choose replacement rubber that leverages the latest technology, engineering, and innovation. Introducing the new Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS, a tire designed to maximize performance and take advantage of all-season capabilities for sports cars, sports sedans, and crossovers.

Unlike other “all-season” tires that compromise performance in winter and summer, the Potenza Sport AS goes above and beyond to expand the performance envelope. It delivers precision wet performance, responsive handling in dry conditions, and impressive traction on snowy roads. Bridgestone’s engineers have achieved this by incorporating PeakLife Polymer Technology into a new rubber compound, using a specialized tread pattern, and integrating ENLITEN technology into the tire’s design.

“Inspired by our rich history and expertise in motorsports, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS tire was created to provide the same ultra-high performance that enthusiast drivers expect from a spirited driving experience, including a quiet, comfortable ride but with wet and winter capabilities that will keep them in command of the road year-round,” says Dale Harrigle, Chief Engineer, Replacement Tires at Bridgestone Americas. “With ENLITEN technology and custom engineering to enhance wet, winter, and wear capabilities, the Potenza Sport AS tire offsets the typical tradeoffs drivers might expect from an ultra-high performance tire, allowing them to enjoy confident vehicle performance regardless of the season.”

One of the key technologies in the Potenza Sport AS is PeakLife Polymer Technology, which enhances the bond between the compounds in the tread for better wear resistance and extended tread life. The tire’s tread pattern features a solid rib design for improved handling and reduced noise, while full-depth 3D ‘sipes’ in the tread blocks provide superior grip in snow.

I recently had the opportunity to personally test the Potenza Sport AS on a closed course, where they were mounted on a 2023 Subaru BRZ. This rear-wheel drive sports coupe proved to be an impressive vehicle for the tire. Bridgestone wet the circuit and challenged us to push the limits while maintaining control. The Potenza Sport AS exceeded expectations with its impressive grip, tenacious braking, and stable transitional handling. Even under extreme conditions, I never lost control or hit any cones.

Bridgestone also paid attention to the tire’s aesthetic properties, knowing that looks matter to many enthusiasts. Using laser technology during the manufacturing process, the tire features a high-contrast permanent etching that visibly darkens the sidewall, prominently displaying the company’s logo.

The new Potenza Sport AS is asymmetrical but not directional, and it is currently available in 48 initial sizes, with an additional 28 sizes planned for 2024. This wide range of sizes accommodates rim diameters from 16 to 22 inches, making it suitable for many vehicles. For those seeking high-performance applications, select sizes come with an impressive Y-speed rating, allowing sustained speeds of up to 186 mph. This is the first time Bridgestone’s Americas Technology Center has developed Y-speed ratings for consumer replacement tires.

Based on my test, Bridgestone has set a new standard in the competitive all-season tire market. While other tire companies focus on narrow performance ranges, the Potenza Sport AS caters to the real-world needs of sports car, sports sedan, and sporty crossover owners who demand improved performance in extreme conditions. I will undoubtedly be purchasing a set of Potenza Sport AS tires for one of my vehicles soon.
