Exclusive Preview: Coleen Rooney Anticipates a Riveting and Heartfelt Evening at the Highly-Anticipated Wagatha Documentary Screening

Rooney’s screening of Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story at the Everyman cinema in Liverpool on Wednesday was attended by her husband Wayne, their eldest son Kai, and her parents Colette and Tony McLoughlin. Other footballers, including Phil Jones and Jordan Pickford, were also present at the event.

Rooney expressed her excitement about the screening and anticipated that it would be an emotional experience due to the content of the documentary. She mentioned feeling nervous about people’s reactions to the film but hoped that everyone would enjoy it.

The three-part series delves into the social media post where Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of being the source behind three “false” stories in The Sun. These stories included fabricated details that Rooney had shared on her private Instagram stories to catch the leaker. Vardy, the wife of Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy, sued Rooney for libel but lost the case after the judge deemed Rooney’s claims to be true.

When asked if she hoped Vardy would watch the show, Rooney replied that it was up to Vardy. She admitted that the decision to film the documentary was not an easy one but felt that it was time to share her truth and story. Rooney expressed relief that a weight had been lifted off her shoulders and that she could now move on with her life. She mentioned having a book coming out in November and looked forward to spending time with her family during Christmas.

Director Lucy Bird aimed to give viewers insight into Rooney’s mindset and make them feel connected to her journey. She described the documentary as a thrilling experience, often referred to as “Wagatha Christie.” Bird wanted to convey the reasons behind Rooney’s actions and provide a detailed account of the process, creating a murder-mystery atmosphere.
