The Nintendo Switch eShop news channel has gone live early with the reveal of Overwatch 2’s next hero just hours before the start of BlizzCon.
Polygon and redditors reported the eShop leaked information about Mauga, Overwatch 2’s next tank hero. Mauga will join the roster of playable characters alongside Season 8 on December 5 following a sneak peek trial this weekend.
Blizzard is expected to officially announce Mauga during BlizzCon, which kicks off today. Check out IGN’s guide on how to watch BlizzCon 2023 for more information.
Mauga’s unique chainguns, Gunny and Cha-Cha, can be fired individually or in unison. His Berserker passive ability grants him temporary health when he deals critical damage.
Overwatch 2 has sparked controversy since its release. It initially received negative user reviews on Steam, and fans expressed dissatisfaction with Blizzard’s decision to make Overwatch 2 free-to-play and cancel its long-awaited PvE Hero mode. Additionally, there were concerns about aggressive monetization. In a recent financial call, publisher Activision Blizzard acknowledged declining engagement and player investment in Overwatch 2.
Blizzard now faces the challenge of convincing Overwatch 2 players that the game has exciting things in store for them.
