We anticipate the Kia Sonet facelift will introduce manual transmission options for both the 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines

Since its launch, the Kia Sonet has performed well in the sub-4m SUV segment. However, with competitors receiving facelifts and upgrades, Kia India plans to release a mid-life facelift for the Sonet. Recently, we got a glimpse of the interior changes in the mid-spec Sonet facelift trim.

Mid-Spec Sonet Facelift Trim Spotted

The competition in the sub-4m SUV space is getting intense, with Tata launching the Nexon facelift, Hyundai refreshing the Venue, Mahindra facelifting the XUV300, and Brezza undergoing a generational upgrade. Meanwhile, the Sonet has remained the same since its launch. The Sonet’s design and presence are its main strengths, and the facelift is set to enhance these qualities further.

In a recent video uploaded by The Car Show Youtube channel, we can see the exterior and interior changes in the Sonet facelift. The exterior upgrades are expected to include a new design for LED headlights, LED DRLs, and front and rear bumpers. The new LED tail lights appear to be inspired by the Seltos facelift.

Based on the video, this particular unit features new design 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a single-pane sunroof, LED headlights, projector fog lights, front parking sensors, roof rails, a shark fin antenna, and more. However, due to the camouflage, it’s unclear whether it has rear washers and wipers, as well as a rear defogger.

What about the interior changes?

One significant interior change in the Sonet facelift is the new automatic climate control unit. The current Sonet’s automatic climate control panel has a small display and two rows of buttons. With the facelift, Kia has streamlined this layout by introducing a single row of buttons on top and a row of toggles below, resulting in a cleaner look.

Additionally, the facelifted Sonet is expected to come with a new fully digital instrument cluster, similar to the one found in the Hyundai Venue. Other notable interior features include rear windows with built-in sliding sun shades (a segment-first feature), rear 3-point seatbelts, tan color upholstery, a rear armrest, rear AC vents, and more. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology and a 360-degree camera are expected to be available only in the top-spec trims.

Other notable features of the Sonet facelift include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, ventilated front seats, and a spacious 392L boot space. The powertrain options are expected to remain the same, including a 1.2L NA petrol engine (82 bhp, 115 Nm, 5MT), a 1.0L turbo petrol engine (118 bhp, 172 Nm, 6iMT, 7DCT), and a 1.5L diesel engine (114 bhp, 250 Nm, 6iMT, 6TC).

From the test mule, it appears that Kia will be introducing manual gearbox options with higher-end trims, potentially for the 1.0L turbo petrol and diesel engines. Due to the changes, there may be a slight increase in price for the facelifted Sonet.
