Arkansas Gov. to Endorse for President
In a surprising move, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is set to endorse Donald Trump’s presidential bid on Wednesday, according to a source familiar with the matter. Sanders, who is seen as a rising star in the Republican Party, will make her announcement at Trump’s rally near Miami. Trump is skipping the debate that night, hosted by NBC News, and holding a counterprogramming event.
Describing the choice as a battle between normal and crazy, Sanders stated, “It’s normal versus crazy, and President Biden and the left are doubling down on crazy. The time has come to return to the normal policies of the Trump era which created a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America, and that’s why I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for President.”
Sanders, 41, is the first woman to serve as governor of Arkansas and the youngest governor in the country. Her endorsement of Trump signals a departure from her predecessor, Asa Hutchinson, who has been critical of the former president’s policies and is trailing behind other major GOP presidential candidates.
Prior to serving as governor, Sanders was Trump’s White House press secretary from 2017 to 2019. She gained attention for delivering the GOP response to President Joe Biden’s most recent State of the Union speech.
Trump expressed his gratitude for Sanders’ endorsement, saying, “We had great success in the White House and it’s an honor to have Sarah’s endorsement. I look forward to having her at the big rally in Hialeah this Wednesday.” However, insiders reveal that there is some frustration within Trumpworld that Sanders did not endorse earlier.
With this high-profile endorsement, Sanders joins the ranks of other governors endorsing presidential candidates. Just recently, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced her endorsement of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
