Following Ronan Pauw’s departure, interim manager Eileen Gleeson has announced the 25-player squad for the upcoming matches. With only eight days until the Aviva Stadium game against Northern Ireland, Gleeson has made six recall choices for the squad, including Tyler Toland, Savannah McCarthy, Hayley Nolan, Éabha O’Mahony, Saoirse Noonan, and Emily Whelan.
Unfortunately, several players have been ruled out due to injuries such as Niamh Fahey, Megan Campbell, Aoife Mannion, Jessie Stapleton, Claire Walsh, Tara O’Hanlon, Roma McLaughlin, Jess Ziu, Sinead Farrelly, and Leanne Kiernan. Additionally, World Cup players Ciara Grant, Sinead Farrelly, and Heather Payne have not been included in the squad.
The return of Tyler Toland is particularly noteworthy as she had been absent from the senior side for four years following a public falling-out with Pauw. However, Gleeson has chosen to recall her based on her exceptional performances with Blackburn Rovers. Another exciting addition to the squad is Abbie Larkin, who recently joined Glasgow City.
Next Saturday, Gleeson’s team will face Northern Ireland at the Aviva Stadium, where an impressive 30,000 tickets have already been sold. Following this, they will travel to Budapest for their next match.
