If you’re looking to escape to the beautiful West Coast beaches or planning a weekend getaway to catch a Chiefs football game, Southwest Airlines has some exciting news for you. They’re introducing two new non-stop flights from Columbus, making it easier for you to reach your desired destinations.
Starting next summer, Southwest Airlines will be offering direct service from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to San Diego and Kansas City International Airport.
San Diego and Kansas City are already popular destinations for Columbus travelers. The weekly service will commence in June and can be booked on Southwest.com.
“Thanks to Southwest Airlines’ new flights to San Diego and Kansas City, two of the most sought-after destinations for Columbus travelers will now be accessible nonstop,” said Joseph R. Nardone, President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. With this new service, Greater Columbus travelers can now choose from a total of 53 nonstop destinations from John Glenn International and Rickenbacker Passenger Terminal, the most ever offered.
This expansion of routes comes in response to the growing demand for air travel. Last month, Columbus area travelers set a new record for September departures with over 345,000 departures, surpassing the previous record set in September 2019 by 2%. Year-to-date traffic for both airports is at 97% of the pre-pandemic levels in 2019, showing an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Airport officials predict this momentum will continue throughout the fall and winter seasons.
