The intense Hell is Real rivalry between Columbus and FC Cincinnati reached new heights as the Crew emerged victorious in the first-ever postseason match, clinching a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory in the Eastern Conference Final.
Christian Ramirez, once again, proved to be the hero for the Crew as he scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period. Just a week prior, Ramirez had secured the first goal in the Crew’s 2-0 victory over Orlando City in the Eastern Conference semifinals, despite welcoming his third child five days earlier.
At the start of the match, an early advantage for FC Cincinnati put the Crew on the back foot. However, the Crew’s resilience was on full display, and they managed to overcome the odds after halftime, thanks to a brilliant comeback led by Julian Gressel, Diego Rossi, and, of course, Ramirez.
The Crew will now host the MLS Cup Final at Lower.com Field, marking the first MLS championship game at the venue. Their opponents will be the winner of the Western Conference final between Los Angeles FC and Houston, with the championship game scheduled for next Saturday, Dec. 9.
