Ex-Long Beach Officer Imprisoned for Child Pornography: One Year Anniversary

Exactly one year ago on July 25, 2022, a former veteran officer of the Long Beach Police Department was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for distributing sexually explicit images of underage girls. This case highlights the seriousness of such offenses and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to hold individuals accountable for their actions.

Anthony Brown, aged 58, received a 70-month term in federal prison, in addition to a $15,000 fine and lifetime supervised release. The U.S. Attorney’s Office oversaw the sentencing, ensuring that justice was served in this matter.

In March, Brown pleaded guilty to one federal count of distributing child pornography. He admitted to using the MeWe internet messaging application to share these explicit images with others between 2019 and 2020. Moreover, court documents revealed that he possessed a sexually explicit image of a girl under the age of 12.

Despite serving the Long Beach Police Department for 27 years, Brown’s tenure came to an end in April 2021 when he was arrested on state charges related to this case. However, federal prosecutors intervened, leading to the dismissal of those charges and the subsequent federal prosecution.

Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish expressed his disappointment and condemnation following Brown’s arrest in March 2021. He emphasized that Brown’s actions did not reflect the professionalism and commitment displayed by the department’s employees who dedicate themselves to protecting the community on a daily basis. Chief Hebeish further stressed the importance of holding individuals accountable when their actions undermine the values of the organization and erode public trust, particularly in matters involving the welfare of children.

Prior to his arrest, Brown was assigned to a security detail at the Long Beach Airport.
