- Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner are currently going through a contentious divorce.
- Baumgartner is requesting $248,000 per month in child support from Costner.
- She argues that this amount is necessary to maintain the lifestyle their children are accustomed to.
Kevin Costner’s soon-to-be ex-wife claims that his monthly income of $1.5 million is insufficient to support their three children and is seeking a higher amount of child support than the $30,000 he has offered.
In her court documents filed last week, Christine Baumgartner asks for $248,000 per month to cover their children Cayden (16), Hayes (14), and Grace (13). She also requests that Costner pay for their private school tuition, extracurricular activities, sports, and healthcare expenses.
According to Baumgartner, their previous lifestyle included private planes, multiple luxurious estates, extravagant vacations, memberships to exclusive clubs, private chefs, and elite schools for their children.
Baumgartner argues that Costner’s annual income of $19.5 million in 2022, after deducting all family expenses of $11.9 million, leaves a net income of $7.5 million. She emphasizes that their children should be able to maintain a comparable lifestyle when they are with her.
Baumgartner, a 49-year-old handbag designer, states in her filing that she currently has no sources of income other than the $50,000 in her bank account. She reveals that Costner deposited $1.4 million into a bank account opened under her name but expresses concerns about accepting the money and potentially forfeiting her right to claim additional support.
Baumgartner claims to have kept the details of their divorce private until now, aiming to protect their family’s privacy. She accuses Costner of publicly attacking her, possibly to pressure her into moving out without a temporary child support order in place.
In addition, Baumgartner criticizes Costner for informing their children of the divorce without her presence. She recounts how he broke the news to their three children during a 10-minute Zoom call from his hotel room in Las Vegas, despite having the opportunity to discuss it in person five days later.
After nearly 20 years of marriage, Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner, citing irreconcilable differences. Costner responded by requesting that she be removed from his $145 million compound in Santa Barbara, claiming that it was agreed upon in their prenuptial agreement. He also offered to pay $30,000 per month for child support and contributed $1 million towards her finding a new home.
Baumgartner alleges that Costner is attempting to evict both her and their teenagers from the home, which Costner denies. The court will reconvene next month to determine whether Costner has the legal authority to enforce Baumgartner’s departure from the compound.
As of now, the lawyers representing Baumgartner and Costner have not provided any comment on the matter.
