Ex-business partner claims Kanye West utilized offensive phrases about Jews

In a compelling new BBC Two documentary titled The Trouble With KanYe, journalist Mobeen Azhar explores the life and 2024 US presidential campaign of renowned musician Kanye West, now legally known as Ye. One of the key figures interviewed in the film is Alex Klein, a revered tech entrepreneur and former friend of the 46-year-old artist.

As the creator of the innovative music streaming platform and remix device called Stem Player, Klein collaborated with Ye on the release of the Donda 2 album. However, their professional relationship eventually soured, prompting Klein to reveal the alleged reaction of his former business partner. Klein claimed that Ye was extremely angry and even made offensive remarks, including comparing Klein to “the other Jews” while expressing a desire to physically harm him. Astonished, Klein confronted Ye, questioning whether he truly believed that Jews were conspiring against him. Ye confidently confirmed his belief, asserting that his controversial statement was essential in his journey to becoming president.

In November 2022, Klein publicly announced the termination of his company Kano Computing’s association with the musician. Ye, who has achieved immense success as a musician with over 160 million records sold, made an unsuccessful attempt to win the US presidential election in 2020.

Adding another intriguing perspective to the documentary is Mark, a homeless man living in his car outside the Cornerstone Christian Church in California. Mark claimed that Ye approached him and asked him to become his campaign manager for his presidential bid. According to Mark, Ye admired his deep understanding of religion and sought his opinion on various matters. Mark vividly recalled the moment Ye invited him to be his campaign manager, which occurred on the Monday before Thanksgiving.

The BBC reached out to the church after a video surfaced showing Ye in attendance, hoping to establish contact with him. The pastor of the Cornerstone Christian Church, who declined to be filmed, informed Azhar that Ye had purchased part of the property and had ambitious plans for it. He also showed Azhar a room filled with individuals using sewing machines, displaying mood boards featuring new designs for Ye’s popular Yeezy brand.

Adidas, the renowned German sportswear company, severed ties with Ye in late October due to his alleged promotion of anti-Semitism. However, in May, they had previously announced that they would sell his Yeezy shoes and donate a portion of the proceeds to organizations focused on social justice.

The BBC documentary will also feature interviews with John Boyd, who managed Ye’s 2020 presidential campaign, poet Kevin Coval, and Ye’s collaborator Malik Yusef. Accompanying the film is an eight-part podcast series titled The Kanye Story. The content delves further into Ye’s life and career.

Netflix has previously released a three-part series, Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, exploring Ye’s early years in the music industry. Utilizing intimate footage spanning two decades, the series provides a comprehensive look at Ye’s evolution from an unknown rapper to a global superstar, fashion icon, and entrepreneur.

Ye’s representatives have been contacted by the PA news agency for a response. The Trouble With KanYe is scheduled to air on BBC Two at 9 pm on Wednesday.
