Despite the impending start of classes, there is a lack of guidance from the Department of Education on school assignments for these students.

Furthermore, the controversy surrounding the mayor’s call for the governor to mandate counties outside the city to provide free housing for migrants remains unresolved. While Adams argues for emergency orders to override local objections, Governor Hochul rejects this proposal, citing the harsh realities of placing migrants in secluded hotels in rural areas. However, the governor’s reluctance to extend this burden to other areas suggests that New York City will bear the brunt of the crisis alone, worsening an already dire situation.
