Greg Gutfeld of Fox News sparked controversy with his views on climate change, displaying questionable “logic” during a segment on Wednesday. (Watch the video below.)
Gutfeld, one of the co-hosts of “The Five,” seemed to acknowledge the reality of global warming by saying, “No one is saying that climate isn’t changing.” However, he disregarded scientific consensus by claiming that the gradual warming of the planet is actually a positive thing.
“More people die from cold weather than warm weather,” Gutfeld argued. “So if we consider the ultimate variable, which is lifespan, a slightly warmer planet would make areas more habitable for people. People don’t live in frozen areas, they live in warm areas.”
Meanwhile, the month of September is on track to be one of the hottest on record, capping off a record-breaking summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
Scientists attribute the ever-warming climate to human-caused climate change resulting from the burning of fossil fuels, with the added impact of natural occurrences like El Nino.
Essentially, the excessive emission of heat-trapping carbon dioxide into the Earth’s atmosphere, often referred to as the greenhouse effect, is causing the planet to warm more than it should. This phenomenon leads to dangerous extreme weather events and significant environmental damage.
Gutfeld also made the false statement that scientists who discuss climate change never mention ice measurements from around the globe. However, NASA reports indicate substantial ice loss in places like Antarctica and Greenland, which store two-thirds of the world’s freshwater reserves.
Many individuals on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) expressed their disagreement with Gutfeld’s claims.
