Judi Dench receives high praise from British wildlife charity
Last month, renowned British actor Judi Dench visited the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in England and had an encounter with a gray seal pup named after her. The organization shared this heartwarming moment in a press release.
During her visit, Dench, who is 88 years old, was accompanied by her family. On the same day, the sanctuary admitted an injured and dehydrated female seal pup.
In a press release, Leanne Atwood, the fundraising manager of the sanctuary, said, “It was like fate. It just so happened that, as Dame Judi and her family explored the Sanctuary, this pup was admitted to our Seal Hospital.”
As part of their theme for naming seals this season, the sanctuary chose “actors and actresses.” Naming the female pup after Judi Dench was an obvious choice. Atwood explained, “We knew we just had to name her after Judi Dench, who was already on our list of name ideas.”
Judi Dench was incredibly excited to meet the seal pup named after her. The pup, estimated to be about three weeks old, was captured in a photo with Dench, who was wearing a scarf. The photo also revealed that another seal at the sanctuary is named Owen Wilson.
The sanctuary hopes to release Judi, the seal, back into the wild once she has fully recovered. Gray seals inhabit coastal areas along the North Atlantic Ocean, including Great Britain, Northern Europe, eastern Canada, and the northeastern United States. It is important to give seal pups their space and not mistake them for orphans, as the mother is often nearby. If a pup appears sick or injured, it is recommended to contact local wildlife authorities for assistance.
