The owner of a popular downtown Los Angeles hookah lounge is set to enter a guilty plea on Wednesday for the unlawful sale of firearms, including several untraceable ghost guns, and drug possession charges.
Hovik Dagesian, a 41-year-old resident of Burbank, has reached an agreement to plead guilty to federal charges of engaging in the unlicensed firearms business and intent to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Federal prosecutors have accused Dagesian of illegally selling 10 firearms, including an unserialized AR-15-style short-barreled rifle, on four separate occasions between October 2020 and January 2021.
Court documents state that Dagesian does not possess a federal firearms license and no firearms are registered under his name. Moreover, it is alleged that he sold other untraceable AR-15-style ghost guns, which are assembled from various parts and lack serial numbers, as well as a semiautomatic shotgun, a Tec-DC9 pistol, and a vintage Tommy gun.
All of the illicit firearm transactions reportedly took place at Dagesian’s establishment, known as DTLA Hookah Lounge. A search warrant executed by law enforcement resulted in the seizure of over a dozen firearms from the business premises, according to court filings in Los Angeles federal court.
