Dolly Parton’s Surprising Reason for Preventing Elvis from Recording ‘I Will Always Love You’ Exposed

Dolly Parton will always love Elvis Presley.

During a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Parton expressed her admiration for Presley and revealed that she had hoped he would record her song, “I Will Always Love You.” Unfortunately, his manager Colonel Tom Parker’s request prevented it from happening.

In the interview, Parton explained that everything was set for Presley to record the song, but the night before the recording session, Parker informed her that he would only agree to it if he received “at least half the publishing [rights].”

Parton was devastated by the news, as she knew how much Presley loved the song. She shared a conversation she had with Priscilla Presley, who told her that Elvis had even sung the song to her when they were walking down the courthouse steps after their divorce.

Although Presley never got the chance to record “I Will Always Love You,” the song eventually became a hit when Whitney Houston covered it for the soundtrack of the film “The Bodyguard.” Parton recalls her initial reaction to hearing Houston’s version on the radio, describing it as “overwhelming.”

While Parton didn’t get to hear Presley sing her song, she did get the opportunity to duet with Ronnie McDowell on her upcoming rock album, “Rockstar.” She wrote a song called “I Dreamed About Elvis” for the album, which features McDowell, who used to work with Presley and has a similar voice.

Parton’s collaboration-filled album, “Rockstar,” includes appearances from artists like Miley Cyrus, Pink, and Paul McCartney. She considers it some of her best work and emphasizes the fact that it’s a departure from her usual style.

The country legend initially hesitated when she was chosen to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, feeling that she didn’t see herself as a rock star and hadn’t earned the honor. However, she eventually accepted it graciously and used the opportunity to create her rock album.

In addition to her musical endeavors, Parton is known for her philanthropy work and her iconic style. She has left a lasting impact on the music industry and continues to be beloved by fans worldwide.
