Aug. 10 (UPI) — A heartwarming reunion unfolded when a beloved dog, who had gone missing from her owners’ Arkansas home, was finally reunited with her family after three long years, all thanks to a microchip.

Rex and Britnee Smith, the owners, were devastated when their two pit bulls, Jack and Jill, mysteriously disappeared from their Little Rock backyard back in July 2020.

The family tirelessly searched the area, plastering missing flyers and sharing posts on social media, desperately hoping for any leads on the whereabouts of their beloved canines, but to no avail.

Eventually, the Smiths made the difficult decision to move 300 miles away to McKinney, Texas, resigning themselves to the fact that they may never see their furry companions again.

However, fate had other plans. In July of this year, the couple received an unexpected call from the Little Rock Animal Village, delivering incredible news: Jill, one of their missing dogs, had been found.

According to the shelter, Jill had been picked up as a stray and, after being scanned for a microchip, they were able to obtain Rex Smith’s phone number. The Smiths were overjoyed by the discovery.

“It’s as if she never left us,” exclaimed Britnee Smith in an interview with USA Today. “We seamlessly picked up where we left off three years ago. Jill came right back into our waiting arms.”

The Smith family is now determined to resume their search for Jack, hoping that he too may be in the vicinity where Jill was found.

“We wish she could speak,” expressed Rex Smith. “We have so many questions, and we simply want to know, from beginning to end, what happened?”
