Discovery of a Previously Unknown Sea Monster Species with 20 Arms Roaming the Icy Waters of Antarctica

A Fascinating Discovery: New Species of Sea Monster with 20 Arms Unearthed in Antarctic Waters

A group of scientists on a research vessel in Antarctica recently made a groundbreaking discovery: they captured a new species of underwater creature that boasts an astonishing 20 arms and a unique strawberry-like body shape.

These researchers embarked on a series of expeditions between 2008 and 2017 with the goal of uncovering “cryptic” sea creatures, specifically a group known as Promachocrinus or Antarctic feather stars.

Unlike other invertebrate marine animals like starfish and sea cucumbers, feather stars stand out due to their larger size and otherworldly appearance when they swim, according to the researchers.

These ethereal creatures can be found residing anywhere from 65 to 6,500 feet below the ocean’s surface. During their mission, the researchers from Scripps Institute found eight unique species within this group, four of which had never been identified before.
