Considering the cost of phones, this isn’t much. However, bigger brands like Apple and Samsung tend to have longer lifespans. Here are the average lifespans of some popular phones:
– iPhone: 4 to 8 years
– Samsung: 3 to 6 years
– Google Pixel: 3 to 5 years
– Huawei: 2 to 4 years
These are just averages, so your experience may vary. To determine your phone’s lifespan, you need to know when it was made, not just when you purchased it. If you still have the original box, check for the manufacturing date on the package or any included documentation. If you don’t have the box, you can find this information in your phone’s settings under “About” or a similar option. Alternatively, you can use the phone’s serial number, which is usually found in the settings as well.

Instead of going through all these steps, you can visit the website “end of life date” to check your phone’s end of life. This site provides a straightforward list of EOL dates and lifecycles for devices and software programs. It currently tracks 261 products and even offers an iCal integration for reminders. Simply type your phone’s make and model in the search box, or choose from the four major manufacturers listed on the site. If you can’t find your phone, browse through the complete list of products and manufacturers in the left-hand menu. Clicking on a manufacturer will show you a chronological list of their phones, including release dates, discontinuation dates, and manufacturer support status.
Using a phone past its EOL date is asking for trouble. If you’re still using an iPhone 5C, Google Pixel 5, or Samsung S10S, among others, you’re at risk. Once a phone reaches its EOL, the manufacturer no longer provides security updates, leaving your device vulnerable to bugs and security issues. Hackers can exploit these weaknesses and gain access to sensitive information like your bank accounts, company data, and health records. They could even steal your voice through audio data from your phone calls and voicemails.
