Discover Thierry Despont’s Exquisite Southampton Estate Re-Listing at $19.95M – A Dreamy Showcase of Luxury

Introducing a spectacular 34-acre estate in Southampton, previously owned by the world-renowned architect and designer Thierry Despont. This extraordinary property is set to hit the market with a reduced asking price of $19.95 million, down from last year’s $23.5 million.

Thierry Despont earned his reputation by restoring iconic American landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, as well as famous buildings such as the Carlyle Hotel and the Woolworth Building. His esteemed clientele included visionaries such as Bill Gates and Calvin Klein.

The late Despont, who sadly passed away at the age of 75, resided in this Southampton home until his untimely demise on August 13. Despite being born in Limoges, France, his true affection and admiration were reserved for the vibrant city of New York.

In a compelling 2017 interview with The New Yorker, Despont expressed his profound love for New York: “The city has an exquisite sense of freedom and endless possibilities. The diverse blend of cultures and races originating from all corners of the globe is truly inspiring. We all proudly call ourselves New Yorkers.”

The Despont estate, situated at 320 Majors Path in Southampton, encompasses the original Southampton Riding and Hunt Club space, which dates back to the 1920s. The property was most recently home to the equestrian facility, Rosewood Farms. Over the years, Despont transformed the estate, converting it into a luxurious residence complete with a guesthouse and pool house.

In order to create this remarkable estate, Despont invested a substantial $8.55 million between 2011 and 2013, acquiring and merging three adjacent parcels. The property boasts breathtaking views of a sprawling 50-acre agricultural reserve.

The primary residence consists of a charming converted barn with six bedrooms. An open patio courtyard with a magnificent fountain serves as a centerpiece, while a converted stable now serves as the pool house adjacent to the infinity pool. Additionally, there is a four-car garage that was once Despont’s art studio. Despont was not only a renowned architect and designer but also a talented painter and sculptor.

Douglas Elliman’s esteemed agent, Paul Brennan, enthused, “This property is truly one of a kind. The transformation and utilization of space by Despont are truly remarkable. He was a true renaissance man.” Brennan shares the listing with talented Elliman brokers Michaela Keszler and Martha Gundersen.

Despont’s other prestigious property, a magnificent 10,000-square-foot townhouse located in Tribeca at 182 Franklin St., is also currently on the market for $19.49 million, down from its initial asking price of $24.99 million in 2021. This luxurious residence is listed by Douglas Elliman’s experienced agent, Rueben Schatz.
